Laverne Swarb of Monahans, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family.
A visitation will be held at the Harkey Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2019 from 5:00-7:00pm. Laverne grew up and attended school in Maud, Oklahoma and graduated in 1952. She married Kenneth Swarb on August 7, 1953 in St. Louis, Oklahoma. She worked as a beautician for most of her lifetime in Monahans and Eunice, NM. Ken was transferred to Monahans in 1964 where the couple quickly made their home. They were married 65 years.
Laverne was very involved at the First Baptist Church in Monahans where she attended for many years. She was admired by young and old alike for her “card ministry;” sending daily birthday, anniversary, get well, sympathy, and the simple words of encouragement that always seemed to come at the right time.
Laverne was very involved in her women’s study club, Tau Lambda, that provides scholarships for high school students, and various civic activities.
In 1993, Laverne was honored by the Chamber of Commerce with the Merit Award for her outstanding citizenship.
This wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma will be dearly missed by her family as well as, the entire community of Monahans. She was a positive asset in all she was involved in, whether it was church, clubs, family events, or Lobo and Lady Lobo functions. She was our #1 fan.
Those that knew Laverne witnessed her love, compassion, and generosity. She was always quick to lend a helping hand.
Laverne is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Jane Palmer, four brothers, RC, T.Boy, JP, Chick, two sisters, Shirley Laster and RG Palmer, and grandson Nathan Swarb.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Swarb, sons Steve Swarb and wife Jennifer, Dennis Swarb and wife Tina, and Warren Swarb and wife Wendy.
