Alfredo “Freddie” Olivas Chavez Jr., 53, of Monahans, Texas, and brother of his favorite sister, Christina Chavez, passed away on September 14, 2025, in El Paso, Texas. He was born on November 6, 1971, in Monahans to Alfredo and Rosalinda Olivas Chavez.
Freddie was a proud graduate of Monahans High School, Class of 1990. While in high school, Freddie was popular, was part of the band, was a baseball player, and part of the Lobo Tennis team. Throughout life, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and the great outdoors; and was a lifelong Cowboys and Yankees fan. He served as a security guard for schools in Midland, Texas and later went off to work in banking as a bank teller. Known for his sharp appearance, he always made sure his hair was styled perfectly, and his smile left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home and on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel.
Freddie is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ramon and Sara Chavez, and his grandfather, Alejandro Olivas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Lamas Chavez of Marfa; his parents, Alfredo and Rosalinda Chavez; his sister, Christina Chavez; his son, Jason Chavez; his daughter, Victoria “Allie” Chavez; his grandmother, Janice “Nana” Light; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
