Obituary

Barbara Knott, age 77, of Monahans, Texas, formerly of El Paso, Texas, passed away on April 8, 2026. To those who knew and loved her, she was simply Barb — a force of nature wrapped in warmth, generosity, and an unshakable love for her family.

Barbara and her twin sister, Betty, were born in Bossier City, Louisiana on January 21, 1949, to Buford Milton (Bo) and Dorothy Humphries. From the very beginning, these two came into the world together, and that bond never wavered.

Barbara earned her Master’s degree in Nursing in 1974 from the University of Texas at El Paso and went on to build a remarkable career at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, where she served for 33 dedicated years. She worked her way from nursing to management, spending her final 10 years as Chief of Medical Management before retiring in 2008. She was the kind of leader people remembered — not just for her skill, but for her heart.

The great love of her life was Thomas Marshall Knott, whom she married on June 20, 1975. They built a wonderful life together, full of laughter and devotion, until his passing in 2003. She carried that love with her every day after.

Barb had a gift for making people feel special, and nowhere was that more evident than at Christmas. She was legendary for her generous gifts — and for keeping everyone guessing. You simply could not judge the contents by the box. More than one family member was surprised to find a $50 bill wrapped around a Starbucks gift card inside a Polident box!! That was pure Barb.

Barbara loved sports of all kinds—her television was always tuned to a game, no matter the season. From football to yes, even curling, she enjoyed watching it all. But her heart truly belonged to the Dallas Cowboys.

She also found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially the companionship of her beloved dogs. It brings the family great comfort to know that when she passed, she was reunited with them, along with Tom and all those she had missed so dearly.

She is survived by her brother, Harrison Humphries (Adela) of Monahans; her twin sister, Betty Turner of Monahans; sister, Patricia Hoyt (Jim) of Austin; nieces and nephews, Chris Turner (Amy) of Corpus Christi, Craig Turner of Monahans, Carly Hoyt (Lucas) of Fremont, CA, Mitch Hoyt (Erin) of Olathe, Kansas, Lisa Humphries of Phoenix, AZ, Laura Gibson (Corey) of Oak Hill, VA, and Brittany Humphries of Leonard, TX; and great-nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn, Zach and Zane Turner, Declan Turner, Liam Hoyt, and Reese and Oscar Riggs.

Graveside services are pending at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.

Barb lived the way she loved — fully, generously, and without reservation. The family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with those she loved, and watching over us all with that same quiet strength and boundless love she gave so freely in life.
