It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Basil Douglas Sparks, a cherished son, brother, and friend. Basil's radiant spirit, which graced this world for twenty-five years, was tragically taken from us on December 15, 2023.
Born on a warm September day in 1998, Basil brought immense joy and happiness to his parents, Dale and Sharon Sparks, from the very beginning. His magnetic personality and unwavering love touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact that will be forever cherished.
A man of many passions, Basil found solace and joy in various pursuits. Whether he was immersed in the beauty of nature while exploring the great outdoors, honing his marksmanship skills through target shooting. His artistic side ignited a creative fire within him, allowing his vibrant spirit to shine on stage. From his early years as a devoted Boy Scout, where he pursued excellence and achieved the distinguished title of Eagle Scout, to his later years as an avid collector of toy soldiers, Basil never lost his youthful enthusiasm.
Academically gifted, Basil attended Ector Junior High where he was top 10 bringing him to graduate from Odessa High School. He went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Odessa College, with the dream of entering the Emergency Medical Services Professional Program. Basil's desire to help others and make a positive impact on their lives was a testament to the selflessness and compassion that defined him.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Basil spent seven memorable years at FedEx, where he built lasting connections with his colleagues. Recently, he discovered a new passion for weightlifting, further cultivating his determination and strength of character.
Above all, Basil's genuine heart and infectious laughter brought him countless friendships, but none as profound as his bond with his best friend, Garrett. Their unwavering support for one another carried them through the highs and lows of life, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Basil is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edward Sparks and Katherine “Granny” Sparks; maternal grandparents, Charles Butler and Louise Butler.
Survived by his loving parents, Dale and Sharon Sparks, and his older loving brother, Edward Sparks. The Loss of Basil will forever leave a mark on Edwards life, from growing up together, having countless memories, and Edward always looking out for his little brother at scouts and throughout life, the memories will never be forgotten and will forever remain in his heart. Basil's untimely departure leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives. As we come together to grieve this profound loss, let us remember the laughter, the kindness, and the beautiful moments that Basil shared with us.
