Cruz O. Rivas

Cruz Rivas Jr., a devoted and decorated Vietnam War veteran, passed away on February 21, 2024, in Monahans, Texas, at the age of 75. Born on April 21, 1948, Cruz served his country with honor and bravery and was deeply committed to his role as a service attendant following his military career with the 101st Airborne Division, Screaming Eagles. During his time in the military, Cruz earned several accolades for his exceptional service including the: Army Commendation Medal, Silver and Bronze Star Medal for his valor in Vietnam. His dedication to his country was further reflected in the numerous medals he received, such as the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Award. Cruz's passion for his role as a veteran was evident throughout his life, and he took great pride in his accomplishments while serving in the Vietnam War. His commitment to excellence was showcased in his achievements, such as his expertise as a Dragon Gunner, Iron Horse Combat Leader, and Expert Rifleman. He is Preceded in death by: Cruz M. Rivas, Elvinia O. Rivas.

He is survived by: (son) Matthew Lopez (siblings) Juan Rivas and Amanda Rivas, Ismael Rivas, Alfredo Rivas, Elida R. Juarez and Emilio H. Juarez, (Nieces and Nephews): Andrea Rivas, Juan Rivas Jr., Isabel Rosa Rivas, Ismael Rivas Jr., Veronica Fuentes Martinez, Edward Rivas, Amanda Marie Rivas, Ashley Nicole Rivas, Eric Rivas, Luz Elvinia Molina, Efren Juarez, Emilio R. Juarez, Sebastian Patrick Rivas, Emilio M. Juarez, Matthew Juarez, Taylor Molina, Gabriela Molina. 

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday February 27, 2024, at 10:00am at St. Johns Evangelistic Catholic Church with a mass to follow.

Cruz Rivas Jr.'s unyielding commitment to his duty, his profound impact on his comrades, and his exemplary service to his nation will forever be revered and cherished. May his memory be a beacon of inspiration, and may he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his service and sacrifice will never fade from memory.
