Darlene Janette Harris September 19, 1932-September 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Darlene Harris, who left us peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family.

Darlene was born on September 19, 1932, in Clarke County, Iowa to Harvey and Alta Deemer. She was the third of three children and was fondly called “Babe,” by her family and close friends. She grew up in rural Clarke County Iowa and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1950 where she excelled in basketball. She married the love of her life, Gene Harris, on October 14, 1951, in Osceola, Iowa. In 1971, they settled in Monahans, Texas, where they lovingly raised their family and were blessed with 61 years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alta Deemer; siblings Gene Deemer and Betty Hirsch; husband, Gene Harris; and sons Gerald Dean and Roger Eugene.

Darlene will be cherished and remembered by her children: Merri Harris of Ottawa, Kansas; Craig and Shelley Harris of Midland; Lee Anne and Denny McCombs of Midland; Jolene and Tommy Holladay of San Angelo; and David Harris of Midland. Her grandchildren: Eric Harris and Breanne Harris; Brian and Leeana Harris; Cain and Kelsey Sconiers; Trent Sconiers, Harris Holladay, and Tanner Holladay. Great grandchildren: Collin Harris, Carsen Harris, Sophia Harris, Olivia Harris, and Caroline Sconiers.

Pall bearers will be her grandsons: Eric Harris, Brian Harris, Cain Sconiers, Trent Sconiers, Harris Holladay, and Tanner Holladay.

Darlene served faithfully in various roles at the Monahans First United Methodist Church including the youth ministry, cooking for the Lunch Bunch and Rotary Club, and working in the church flower garden. She was her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and loved supporting them in all their various activities.

Funeral services will be held on September 22nd at 10:00am at the Monahans Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.  All who knew and loved Darlene are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. PK Patel and Marcy Askins for their dedicated care of our mother during the past several years.

A special note of thanks to the hospice staff at Hospice of Midland, whose presence and support meant so much to our family.

The family wants to extend their deepest gratitude to Allen Brooks, pastor of the Monahans Methodist Church. His guidance and support have been a source of immense comfort during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charities: the ALS Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, and Hospice of Midland.
