Dorothy Doylene McGuire, 94, of Monahans, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Denver City, Texas.
Doylene was born on August 1, 1931, in Forsan, Texas, to James Doyle Gilmore and Esther McCoy Gilmore. She met Charlie Lee McGuire while in college at Howard Payne, and they were married on January 17th, 1951. She graduated from Hardin Simmons with her degree in Education and went on to get her Masters of Education from Sul Ross. She lived a long and meaningful life centered around faith, family, and education. A devoted teacher, Doylene started her teaching career in Abilene, Texas, and then taught at the Head Start program in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1972, the family moved to Monahans, Texas, where she spent over 30 years shaping young minds as a kindergarten teacher. She had a special love for children and believed deeply in the importance of kindness, patience, and learning.
Doylene was a woman of many simple joys. She loved to read, knit, and sew, often making clothes by hand for her family. She found happiness in her kids and grandkids and was so proud of all of them. She was every one of her children’s biggest fan –never missing anything they competed in. She carried on that love with her grandchildren, following them all over West Texas to support them in their endeavors. She was Memaw to her grandchildren and all their friends and she loved that! Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and nurturing nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lee McGuire; her parents, James and Esther Gilmore; her grandsons Jason John Avary, Travis James McGuire, Tyler James Henderson; and her sister Hollis James Griffith.
Doylene is survived by her children, Robby McGuire and his wife Shelly of Las Vegas, Nevada; Charla Marcum and her husband Scott of Monahans, Texas; Melinda Escamilla and fiancé, Jimmy Rollins of Monahans, Texas; Megan David and her husband Stan of Denver City, Texas; and Monte McGuire and his wife Susan of Flower Mound, Texas. Doylene was Memaw to 21 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by her two brothers: Tommy Gilmore and his wife Sue of Little Elm, Texas; Richard Gilmore of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Methodist Church of Monahans with officiant Tommy Gilmore. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas.
Dorothy’s legacy of faith, love, service, and devotion to family will live on in all who were blessed to know her. Family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the staff and nurses at Shinnery Oaks Nursing Home of Denver City, their care and affection did not go unnoticed.
