Esperanza "Hope" Reyes Marenco

Monahans, Texas

Esperanza Jerónimo Reyes Marenco passed into the arms of our Lord on October 23, 2021.

She was born on January 22, 1929, to Otelina Reyes Jerónimo and Salvador Jerónimo in Chiapas, Mexico.

She was a seamstress, a restaurateur, and a devout Catholic, but her passion with raising her family.

She lived in  Monahans, Texas most of her life until her passing.

She leaves behind a powerful and strong legacy. Esperanza was a gifted seamstress who learned to sew what she called “altas costuras”- couture or high stitching. She made countless dresses for weddings, quinceañeras, and traditional Mexican Folkloric gowns. In the 1960’s, she and husband Enrique created a traveling show to raise funds for St. Johns Catholic Church with singers, dancers, actors, and comedians. She taught many of the towns youth to dance in traditional Mexican dances from all regions of Mexico.  She was known to be strict and demanding and created many wonderful and colorful dresses that today is a legacy of her devotion to the Church, youth, and Mexican culture. Her passion for making dresses landed her a job at the Herman Marcus clothes factory in Monahans where she made her way to become a Supervisor. She also owned two restaurants in her lifetime with a passion of true Mexican Cuisine.

Esperanza is survived by her sons Jorge Luis Jerónimo Reyes(Elizabeth), Richard Geronimo Marenco (Maria), Edward Geronimo Marenco (Irma), Armando Geronimo Marenco(Michelle), and daughter Marcela Marenco McCalister (Kenny). Grandchildren Jorge and Alberto Reyes, Matthew Marenco (Stephanie), Tiffany (Dimitri) and Alyssa Marenco, Isaiah McCalister, Aidan Marenco. Great-Grandchildren Adrian and Alexandria Zagame, Nienna Marenco, and Joshua Perez.

Esperanza is preceded in death by her husband Enrique Gomez Marenco and son Enrique Jerónimo Marenco, Jr., sisters Simona, Amparo, Maria, and Consuelo, brothers- Salvador, Luis, and Jaime.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Harkey Funeral Home. Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at St. John Catholic Church Evangelist Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 28, 2021 at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church with Deacon Ruben Gomez officiating.
