Gary Lee Hokerk

Gary Lee Hokerk, 92, of Monahans, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026 and entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Gary was born in Herkimer, New York on December 22, 1933 to Maynard Nathan Hokerk and Charlotte Lelah (Schrell) Hokerk.

Gary graduated from Fort Plain Central High in Fort Plain, New York in 1952. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1954. Following his graduation from The Signal Corps in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where he specialized in field radio repair, he served honorably for two years stationed in Pirmasens, Germany during the Korean War era. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1962.

Gary and Gloria were united in marriage on June 27, 1969, at the Midland Lutheran Church in Midland, Texas. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2019, honoring a lifetime of love and commitment to one another.

Gary devoted 14 years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service before retiring in 1998. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #339 in Kermit, Texas where he honored the bonds of service and fellowship among his fellow veterans.

Gary was a devoted man of faith. He was affiliated with several churches over the years, finding worship, fellowship and opportunities to serve wherever God led him. His earthly journey has come to an end, but his eternal life with Christ has begun. Though he will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that Gary is now at peace in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Gary is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Gloria Hokerk; his beloved son, Michael Hokerk; and his parents Maynard and Charlotte Hokerk.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hayes and husband, Bryan; his daughter, Paula Hokerk and life partner Daniel Wetzig; daughter-in-law Yolanda Hokerk; his grandchildren, Justin Hayes and wife Lauren; and Stephanie Eickhoff and husband Brennan; and his great grandchildren, Thomas, William and Astrid Hayes. He is also survived by his siblings, Wayne Hokerk, Linda Reese, and Kevin Hokerk-Robinson, along with beloved nieces and nephews, and his dear friend David McCumsey.

Viewing will be on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at Harkey Funeral Home from 1pm to 6pm.

Services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the Harkey Funeral Home Chapel at 11am with Dr. Donnie Rollie, Chaplain, officiating.

Graveside services will follow at the Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
