Haylie Ashton Hicks

March 31, 1997 — October 11, 2023

Monahans, Texas

Haylie Ashton Hicks, 26, of Monahans, passed away on October 11,2023 in Odessa, Texas. Haylie was born in Odessa, Texas to Greg and Denise Hicks on March 31,1997.

Haylie was a 2015 graduate of Monahans High School where she was a member of PAL, One Act, Acappella and National Honor Society. She also enjoyed being a trainer for the MHS varsity volleyball and football teams.

Haylie began working at Out West Veterinary Clinic during her senior year at MHS and continued to work there through December 2019. She began attending Odessa College in the fall of 2017, ultimately graduating with her Associates Degree in Nursing, becoming an registered nurse. That graduation took place in an Odessa College parking lot in May of 2020, as the nation battled COVID19. She graduated Magna Cum Laude, with the highest-grade point average in her class and received the Asset to the Profession award, voted bn by the nursing department instructors. Immediately after graduation she was hired by Medical Center Hospital in the Labor and Delivery department, where she worked until her passing.

Haylie is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Betty Isham, and her paternal grandparents, Harold and Beverly Hicks. Haylie is survived by her parents, Greg and Denise Hicks of Monahans, brother, Michael (Evelyn) Hicks of Midland, sister Ashley (Anthony) Ceballos of Monahans, sister Danica (Julian) Hernandez of Monahans and her niece and nephews, Emery, Caius, Jase and Alaric.

Haylie was fiercely independent, with a contagious laugh that could jump start any conversation or break the ice in any setting. She was a bright light that touched everyone around her. She had a love of the artistic, from acrylic painting, to diamond art, to painting Warhammer game pieces. Haylie kept Amazon drivers busy delivering books to her 3rd floor apartment. She was known to give unforgettable hugs and loved her family with every fiber of her being. Her niece and nephews had a special place in her heart, spoiling them at every opportunity with her baking and those extra-special birthday and Christmas presents. Haylie loved the cool weather of fall that brought out the jackets and the holiday season that it ushered in. Her joy of singing and love for God were on full display during her time in the praise band at the Crossroads Church, Monahans Campus. Haylie's absence has left an unimaginable hole in our hearts.

Pallbearers are as follows: Greg Hicks, Michael Hicks, Anthony Ceballos, Julian Hernandez, Caius Hernandez and Justin Rowan.
