Jeanie Clements Clopton passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the age of 78 surrounded by her family. She was born April 24, 1947, in Monahans, Texas and an only child to H.A. (Ducky) and Georgie Clements. Jeanie's formative years were filled with dance and piano classes. She performed in numerous dance recitals and played the piano from a young age. Jeanie grew up on the O'Brien Ranch, one of the oldest ranching families in Ward County, where she loved watching her Dad work the cattle and her Mom cook for the cowboys. In high school, she participated in band, choir, and drama. At just 14, Jeanie became a Rainbow Girl in the International Order of the Rainbow Girls; her mother, Georgie was an Eastern Star and her grandfather, G.W. O'Brien was a 31st Mason. At just 16, Jeanie began playing the piano for the First Christian Church and became deeply involved in church life. One of Jeanie's fondest high school memories was inviting her whole class out to the ranch for a barn dance. Ducky and Georgie spent weeks cleaning out the hay barn for night of dancing and unforgettable memories. Jeanie loved her high school days and was voted Best Dressed her Senior year.
In 1966, Jeanie graduated from Monahans High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, where she majored in Art. She performed in the first production of Texas in Palo Duro Canyon. That spring, Jeanie met Joe Sutton, and they were married in August 1967. In the following years, they had two wonderful daughters, Georgia Ruth (born in 1969) and Lisa D'Ann (born in 1970) who quickly became the center of their lives. Joe and Jeanie developed a shared love of volunteering and antiquing, eventually starting a business called J&J Antiques. She joined the Jaycees (United States Junior Chamber of Commerce) and became very active in her Pampa community.
In 1978, Jeanie opened a brick-and-mortar antique and gift store in Monahans named, Jeanie's Etc. She was involved in her daughters' activities. She served as a Girl Scout Brownie troop leader, T-Ball coach, and 4-H volunteer. She attended every game, concert, and recital until they graduated. Family road trips in the station wagon were filled with singing along to the latest county song on the AM channel and stopping to hunt for antiques. Jeanie's passion for antiques continued flourishing, and she began doing shows all over Texas, often with the kids in tow.
In 1981, Jeanie married Keith Clopton and were married over 30 years. Together, they shared a love of travel- always choosing the back roads to discover unique and interesting places. Their adventures included opal digging in Arkansas, sifting gold in Colorado, and frequent trips to Santa Fe, where Jeanie's love for Native jewelry blossomed. One of their favorite destinations was Durango, Colorado where the family spent many years vacationing. They continued traveling for their shared passion of antiques. When once asked what she collected, Jeanie replied, "I'm a collector of collections"- and that truly was. Keith and Jeanie cherished their adventures, ranch life, and especially their garden, which they continued tending even after moving into Monahans from the ranch. Jeanie loved West Texas, often saying there was nothing more beautiful than a West Texas sunset.
Jeanie's commitment to volunteering spanned more than 60 years. She sat on numerous community boards, including the Jaycees, West Texas Children's Home, Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, First Christian Church, CWF-Christian Women's Fellowship, Historical Association, Monahans Exes Association which raised money for scholarships, and as Chairman of the Freedom Fair for multiple years. She was also asked to donate antiques and furnish a room in the historical Holman House. Jeanie's passion for playing the piano continued as she played for the church for over 55 years.
Later in life, Jeanie joined the West Texas Red Cross and Ellen Noel Art Museum's Connoisseurs. She loved attending galas with her daughters and staying involved with their activities. While at home, Jeanie continued her love of knitting, needle pointing, jewelry making, coin, and stamp collecting. She loved driving around the Clements-O'Brien Ranch and telling the most amazing stories from back in the day. Her fondest memories were with her parents living ranch life. Christmases and birthdays were especially memorable, with each celebration better than the last. Jeanie never lost her love of travel- whether by car or plane- and treasured lifelong family adventures. She loved traveling to any casino. Jeanie would sit for hours at the Roulette table and visit with strangers until they became friends. Another wonderful memory was in 2023; after surviving cancer, she finally was able to walk the beach putting her toes in the sand in Galveston with her daughters.
One of her most memorable trips was an Alaskan cruise with her two daughters, where she delighted in dancing, dressing up, exploring each port, and even sifting for gold. After the cruise, they spent time in Leavenworth, Washington, where she marveled at the world's largest nutcrackers and being an avid collector, she was amazed. She also loved Branson at Christmas, and her final trip included Christmas 2025 Vegas and Santa Fe.
Jeanie was a proud mother, a loyal friend, and the heart of every gathering. Her legacy lives on in her children, Georgia and Lisa and in the countless lives she's touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ducky and Georgie Clements; and her husband, Keith Clopton.
Jeanie is survived by her children, Georgia Ruth Sutton Mitchell and Lisa D'Ann Sutton Housman; her sons-in-law, Skeet Mitchell and Joshua Housman. A special thank you to Dr. Redding, Dr. Thang, Jeppy Wilson, Ambrosio Ramirez, and lifelong friend, Charline (Jinx) Sprouse.
