Jenny Lynn Shumake, 89, of Odessa, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM with Family being present from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM and Harkey Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church with Pastors Justin Rhodes and Gordon Cox officiating. Burial to follow immediately after the service.
Jenny was born on March 15, 1935, in Comfort, Texas to parents Lynn and Verna Gandy. She grew up and attended school in Grandfalls and Garden City, Texas. Jenny married William Shumake III on March 7, 1954, at Lee’s Baptist Church in Garden City, Texas. After raising her family in Crane Texas, she and her husband lived across Texas including Austin, where she worked for the Texas Highway Department, as a permit supervisor. Rockport, a favorite vacation spot, Monahans, and Odessa. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Monahans, Texas.
Jenny was preceded in death by her husband, William Luke Shumake III; and her parents, Lynn and Verna Gandy.
Jenny is survived by her sons, William Shumake and his wife Kim of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phillip Shumake and his wife Kelly of Grandview, Texas; siblings, Bonnie Martin of Abilene, Texas, Linda (LuLu) Sidlo of Cropwell, Alabama, Abb Gandy and wife, Lori, of Monahans, Texas, and Ann Parker and husband, Robert, also of Monahans; two grandchildren, Alexander Shumake and Kaitlin Shumake; four great-grandchildren, Destani, Memphys, Kambrie, and Quentin; two sister in laws, Helen Stanley and Tarcilla Cunningham; numerous nieces and nephews who were very close to her.
