Jesus “JJ” “Caboose” Escamilla, 69, of Monahans, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2025, at his home in Monahans.
Jesus was born in Monahans, Texas on October 9, 1956, to Mario and Amalia Escamilla. Known to many as “JJ” or “Caboose,” he was a fun-loving man with a big personality and a free spirit. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone who crossed his path.
Jesus devoted 38 years working in the oilfield, proudly employed with Chevron (Gulf) at the water flood. He was a man that wore many hats he was the local lawn man and if he wasn't out mowing, he was at Howard's drive inn enjoying a cheeseburger. He was also a member of the Petroleum Bowling League Association and a member of the Umpire Association.
Family meant everything to him. He loved his children fiercely and was deeply involved in the lives of his nieces and nephews, often attending their sporting events and making sure family time was filled with laughter, food, and memories. He had a passion for traveling and motorcycles, always planning the next trip and finding the best places to eat along the way. He found excitement in revealing the gems he found with good food. He believed in living life fully and passed along many valuable life lessons to those he loved—whether they asked for them or not.
Caboose is preceded in death by his parents, Mario and Amalia Escamilla; brothers, Alex Escamilla and Tommy Escamilla; nieces, Kristina Fonseca and Samantha Escamilla.
He is survived by his favorite son, Kendrick Escamilla; his favorite daughter, San Juana Escamilla; his brother, Mario Escamilla (wife Debbie) of Monahans, Texas; sisters-in-law Penny Escamilla and Lourdes Escamilla; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Pallbearers will be Brad Norton, Michael John Oyerbides, Jesse Acosta, Jakolbey Acosta, Justin Acosta, and Nate Kizziar. Honorary Pallbearers are Jaiden Jackson, Jordan Jackson, and Bill Purser.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Angel Healthcare/Hospice and to everyone who supported Caboose during his long illness. A special thank you is extended to Aunt Polly Vires for standing by the family and being available 24/7.
