Johnie Braswell

April 2, 1929 — May 20, 2018

Johnie Lee Braswell was born at home (2002 Stadium Drive) in Vernon, Texas to Johnie and Elsie Braswell on April 2, 1929. He went to be with The Lord on Sunday May 20, 2018 at 9:53a.m. from his home in Sherman, Texas. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family and loved ones.
On April 11, 1953, Johnie married the love of his life, Georgia Demos. This union produced the family that became his pride and joy. "Daddy" was a giant among men. One of his core principles was "no one messes with MY kids", throughout his life he kept this promise. This was the only occasion he used the word "my". He was generous to a fault; we were blessed to have use of all material things he provided, which he referred to as "ours" rather than "mine". The fruits of his labor produced a safe, happy, well cared for home. He provided the income and safety, and he totally trusted his wife Georgia to care for their children and lovely home. To provide for his family, he worked tirelessly in the oil field, in trucking and owning his own business. Anyone who knew Johnie, knew he was a family man first, and being a Monahans Lobo was a close second. His love for Monahans and the high school team gave him great pleasure. He truly enjoyed packing up his family and attending these events with great fanfare. Summing it up, "Daddy" chose his family over himself, and his legacy proves it!
In heaven Johnie is rejoined with his wife Georgia, his parents Johnie and Elsie, his sisters Virginia Nichols, and Wanda McAnally. One day he will be reunited with his brother Ray Braswell, his children Sharron Braswell Meredith (husband Morris), Ricky Braswell, Jana Ingham, Janie Braswell-Cuadra, (husband Michael), and Leslie Braswell-Valdez (husband Frank); his eight grandchildren Nechole (husband Roger), Brynn (husband Rich), Lynzi, John (wife Stacey), Brad, Constance, Christie, and Joshua; his nine great-grandchildren Blake, Alexus, Cruz, Gracie, Chance, Hal, Hugh, Jane and Brinlee.
Services will be held at Harkey Funeral Home (210 South Allen Ave Monahans, TX) on Saturday May 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow. Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to a celebration of life reception at the La Quinta (1314 West I-20 Monahans, TX) after the services conclude.
"When my feeble life is over, time for me will be no more. Guide me gently, safely over to Thy kingdom's shore"
Johnie left this home surrounded by his children and relocated to his new home with "Georgia on his mind".
