Obituary

In Loving Memory of LaNell Smallwood

With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of LaNell Smallwood who peacefully departed on July 31, 2026, at the age of 99.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, offering encouragement, and surrounding them with unconditional love. Her family was the center of her world, and her legacy will continue through the generations she loved so deeply.

She had a lifelong passion for sewing and needlepoint, creating beautiful handmade pieces that reflected her patience, creativity, and generous spirit. Whether making gifts for loved ones or working on a cherished project, she found joy in sharing her talents with others.

A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Monahans, Texas, she lived her life guided by her Christian faith. Her church family was an important part of her life, and she found strength, purpose, and lasting friendships through her years of active involvement and service.

She will be remembered for her loving heart, quiet strength, kind spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Though she will be deeply missed, her example of faith, love, and compassion will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

LaNell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert.

She is survived by her children, Kaye (John), Sharon (Terrie), and Gary; her grandchildren, David, Kurt, Lauryn, and Kristyn; her five great-grandchildren; and the many friends whose lives she touched and who will always hold her memory dear.

The family extends its deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Brookdale Cypress Station for the extraordinary love, kindness, and dedicated care they provided. Their support brought comfort, dignity, and joy to her life, and their compassion will never be forgotten. We also offer our sincere appreciation to the caring team at VITAS Healthcare of Houston for their exceptional care, guidance, and support during her final days. Their professionalism and kindness were a great source of comfort to both her and our family.

A service to celebrate her life will be held on August 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Monahans, or to a charity of your choice in her honor.
