Mary Alice Nanson

February 17, 1936 — April 23, 2025

Monahans

Mary Cockrum Nanson, 89, of Monahans, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, surrounded by her children. Mary was born in Iraan, Texas on February 17, 1936 to G.J. (Jake) Cockrum and Carrie Cockrum.

Mary graduated from Odessa College in 1956 with her associates degree. During her time at OC, she was a member of “Senoritas de las Rosas”, a precision bull whip drill team. She was a resident of Monahans since 1967.

Mary literally loved talking to people. She never met a stranger and was kind and respectful to everyone she met. She had resided at Legacy Ranch Memory Care in Midland since August 2024. She quickly became everyone’s favorite resident because of the love she had for everyone.

Mary’s greatest joy were her children. She was an involved mother who attended every event, every ceremony, and every meeting. No matter how late her adult children were leaving her home to return to their homes in Midland and Odessa, she insisted they call her when they got home.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, G.J. (Jake) Cockrum, and her mother, Carrie Yates Cockrum, and numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her son, Frank (Sheri) Nanson of Midland and her daughter, Carrie Nanson of Odessa.

A graveside service will be held at the Monahans Cemetery pavilion on Tuesday, April 29th at 10:00 am. Friends of the family are welcome to attend. Our mom would have been the first to greet everyone.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Legacy Ranch Memory Care facility of Midland and Heart to Heart Hospice of Midland for their tender care of our mother.
