Ora Tamplin

Ora Lee Abel Tamplin, 91, of Monahans, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born June 4, 1924 in Graham, TX to Arthur and Willie Ada (Martin) Abel.

She lived in Graham and Breckenridge as a child, then moved to Coahoma, where she graduated high school. Ora married Emmett "Al" Elton Tamplin on December 27, 1941 in Big Spring. The couple moved to Carlsbad, NM where Al served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1946, they moved to Monahans. She was first a mother to her children and supported all their endeavors; sports activities, dance recitals; sewing numerous costumes with remarkable creativity and skill, and formals for activities in the Rainbow Girls. She excelled in cooking and baking; her peanut brittle was legendary. She worked as the bookkeeper at Asher Furniture in Monahans from 1951 to around 1970.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Elton Tamplin; parents, Arthur and Willie Ada Abel; and brother, Bill Abel.

Ora is survived by her son, Gordon Tamplin and wife Carol of Monahans; daughter, Judith Lowe of Helena, MT; 7 grandchildren, Todd Tamplin of Texline, Jeff Tamplin and wife Jenny of College Station, Tyler Tamplin and wife Anne of Richardson, Daren Tamplin and wife Alison of Wellington, FL, Paige Beckanovic and husband Smajo of Amarillo, Jennifer Lowe-Haayen and husband Rick Haayen of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Jessica Brennan and husband Sean of San Francisco; 15 greatgrandchildren, Jade, Emma, Audrey, Mady, Sam, Clay, Logan, Abel, Solon, Emmett, and Cecily Tamplin, Kaitlin and Mia Brennan, and Matilda and Oliver Beckanovic.

Viewing will be Friday, December 4, 2015 from 1 - 8 PM at Harkey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5 - 7 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Inman officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
