Porfirio Garcia, 79, of Monahans, passed away on Friday January 31, 2025, peacefully in his home. 

Porfirio was born in Terlingua, Texas to Matilde and Teodora Garcia on February 26, 1945. At age 14 he began as a ranch hand for the Gage’s in Marathon TX. At the age of 16, he then went on to work as a ranch hand with his father for the Vest Ranch in Monahans. He met and married his wife, Lori Garcia, at the age of 21 and then started working in the oilfield with various companies as a truck driver, pipe hauler, heavy equipment hauler, and equipment operator. He was also self-employed for 13 years doing landscaping and dirt hauling and then finally worked with the county where he retired. He enjoyed listening to a variety of music genres and family time where he would cook his secret recipe asado every chance he got while keeping everyone laughing and having a great time. He also enjoyed his annual trips to the chili cook off in Terlingua,TX where he attended for over 50 years. He was a great man with a big heart and will truly be missed by all. 

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Harkey Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. Mass is scheduled on Monday, February 10, 2025, at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with a burial to follow at Marathon Cemetery in Marathon, Texas. 

Porfirio is preceded in death by his parents, Matilde & Teodoro Garcia; his brothers and sisters, Sara Aguilar, Francisca Terrazas, Benigno Garcia, Cruz Garcia, Dominga Aguilar, Jesus Garcia, Alfredo Garcia.

Porfirio is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Lori Garcia; daughter, Rosemary Jaquez and husband, Ray, of Odessa; son, Ruben Garcia and wife, Rachel, of Monahans; daughter, Estella Romero and husband, John, of Monahans; grandchildren, Danielle Tavarez, Gabrielle Hinojosa, Seline Sanchez, Issac Sanchez, Ruben Garcia Jr., Justin Garcia, & Jasmine Garcia; great grandchildren, Kaique Tavarez, Ezaya Hinojosa, Jalen Sanchez, Leilani Garcia, & Jhenai Garcia. 

Pallbearers will be: Justin Garcia, Jasmine Garcia, Ruben Garcia Jr., Issac Sanchez, Obed Tavarez, Berto Hinojosa; and Honorary Pallbearer, Trey Sotelo.
