Ricardo G. Valenzuela, 70, of Monahans, Texas, passed away on September 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 28, 1955, in Artesia, New Mexico, to Sotero Valenzuela and Felicitas Grado Estrada.
Ricardo attended Morton High School, where he received his high school diploma. He also attended South Plains College in Levelland and was on the Dean’s list. He went on to build a respected career as an automotive mechanic. Known for his skill and dedication, he found joy in working on vehicles and helping others. He also served his community as a Reserved Deputy and as a teacher in Monahans, roles that reflected his commitment to service and mentorship.
A man with a heart of gold, Ricardo never met a stranger. He was known as a kind and gentle man who touched the lives of many. He loved his family deeply, especially his children and grandchildren, and was happiest when surrounded by them. His dogs and animals also held a special place in his heart.
In his free time, Ricardo enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was well-loved in the community, known by many, and will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and unwavering kindness.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harkey Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, September 12, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers are as follows: Christopher Vasquez, Anthony Valenzuela, Damyon Mallow, Sergio “Sean” Hernandez, and Robert Villareal.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his father and mother.
Ricardo is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Navarrette Valenzuela of Monahans; his children, Ricky Valenzuela and Randy Vasquez; his stepdaughters, Elizabeth Espudo, Priscilla Espudo; his stepson, Ector Espudo; his siblings, Ralph, Martin, and Aurora; and a host of extended family members and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Home Hospice Nurses and Aides for the kindness and care they gave him.
