Obituary

Robert “Robbie” D. Chavez, 71, of Monahans, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2026, in Odessa, Texas.

Robbie was born on January 23, 1955, in Monahans, Texas, to Ramon Chavez and Sara Dominguez Chavez. A lifelong resident of Monahans, he graduated from Monahans High School in 1974 before continuing his education at National Career Institute, where he studied Bookkeeping and Accounting. Robbie married the love of his life, Beatrice Gonzales Chavez, on November 27, 1993, in Monahans, Texas.

Robbie dedicated his career to the ice industry, beginning at just 18 years old. He spent many years working for Crystal Clear Ice, later Reddy Ice, where he served as both a delivery driver and shop foreman. His strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand earned him the respect of his coworkers and friends alike.

A faithful member of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church, Robbie also found great joy in serving his community. He umpired Little League baseball for many years and volunteered as an assistant coach and bookkeeper for the Cubs and White Sox teams. Whether he was on the field encouraging young athletes or cheering from the stands, he loved being part of the game.

Robbie was an avid sports fan whose favorite teams included the Texas Longhorns, Washington Commanders, New York Yankees, and his hometown Monahans Loboes. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, watching classic westerns, gardening, woodworking, and building projects with his hands. Those who knew him also knew of his love for an ice-cold Dr Pepper and the simple pleasures of life spent with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Sara Chavez; his brother, Adolfo Chavez, Sr.; his sister, Erminia Gomez; and his nephews, Harvey Gomez, Adolfo Chavez, Jr., and Alfredo Chavez, Jr.

Robbie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Beatrice Chavez; his son, Jonathan Chavez; his brother, Alfredo Chavez and wife, Rosie; his sister, Elvira Almanza; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.
