Lubbock

Roy Allen Scott, 66, of Lubbock, TX, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Roy was born in Monahans, TX, on Saturday, May 9, 1959, to Roy Lee Scott and Judy Benton. He grew up in Monahans and graduated, Class of 1977, at Monahans High School. Roy attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He built a successful career in banking, working as a Loan Servicing Analyst for JP Morgan Chase, Independent Financial, and WTNB. He also worked for AT&T as a Major Accounts Manager.

As a kid, Roy loved playing sports — first with the “Giants” little league team and later with the Monahans High School baseball team. He was never one to sit on the sidelines, serving as Vice President of his freshman class, a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council representative, participated in UIL events and marched in the “Big Green Band, from Loboland.”

At Texas Tech University, Roy was a member of the “Goin’ Band from Raiderland,” a regular on the Dean’s List, and enjoyed Greek life as part of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Roy loved everything Texas Tech. He was an avid sports fan and could rattle off stats about any Red Raider sport or athlete, past or present.

Music was another of Roy’s passions. He was the concert guru of the Scott family, arranging countless outings to see the rock legends of the 70s and 80s. He attended the very first Texas Jam concert in 1978 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, seeing the legends Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Van Halen, and Journey. Roy never stopped attending concerts with friends and family, and his encyclopedic music knowledge was shared generously with everyone. Movies were another passion of Roy’s - collections of albums, concert t-shirts, sports caps, and films were some of his most treasured possessions. The act of putting on an album and firing up the grill was second only to attending sports events and concerts.

Roy was a kind man, a caring brother, son, uncle, and friend. His dry sense of humor was expected by all who knew him, and his life, far too short, left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to know him.

Roy is survived by his brother and sister, Ricky Scott and Kristen Scott, his sister and brother-in-law, Dianna Scott and George Munstedt; his nephew, Shawn Scott, his nieces Shea Harman and her husband Brad, Ashton Smith and her husband J., Shannon Munstedt, Jessa Busby and her husband Jonathan, Danielle Vanderpool and her husband Sam, and Regan Munstedt and her fiancé Max Brenner; and his great-nephews and nieces; Jonah, Braxton, Kenzie, Boston, Wylah, Millie, Harper and Reese. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Judy and Boyd Benton.

Roy’s service will be held on Wednesday, September 24th at 11 am. The service will be held graveside at Monahans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family are encouraged to share stories and memories in his honor.
