Sammy Russell Shaw, “Rusty”, 67 of Monahans entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Rusty was born on January 21, 1957 in Odessa, Texas to James and Marjorie Shaw. He graduated from Monahans High School in 1975. Following high school, he worked a short stint in the oil field and then obtained a draftsman certification from Odessa College. In 1980, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane Parks. He worked for a home construction company where he became a master painter. Rusty then joined Jane and his father-in-law, Bill in the family produce business. Later in life, he became a salesman for the Kent Companies and worked there until he retired.
When he wasn’t with his family, working, or on the road you could find him at the golf course enjoying a round or even sometimes two with his friends. He was an incredible player and so humble about his talent. He truly enjoyed the game.
Rusty made everyone around him feel like they were the most important thing in the world. His friends knew they could always count on him to be there no matter what. He was the calm to his girl’s storm and the rock of the family.
Rusty was a faithful husband to Jane for 43 years and the best daddy in the world to Jennifer and Paige. One of his favorite roles was being “Peepaw” to his beloved grandchildren, Brody, Brazos, Pearl, Olive, and Navy.
Rusty is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jane; his oldest daughter, Jennifer Shaw Jimenez, her husband Cody, and their sons, Brody, and Brazos; his youngest daughter, Paige Shaw Neighbors, her husband Garret, and their daughters, Pearl, Olive, and Navy; his mother, Marjorie Shaw; his sister, Cathy Parks, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Rusty is preceded in death by his father, James Shaw, sister, Angie Shaw, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Parks, and brother-in-law, Bob Parks.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the love and support they received from so many friends and loved ones. Fighting this battle wasn’t easy but their love and support is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Monahans or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
Honorary pallbearers will be his dear friends who he had so much fun with, Ty Watkins, James Harvey, Bill Kent, Ron Hinds, Billy Neace, Greg Watson, Steve Marshall, Ronny Flowers, John Sconiers, and Barry Allen.
Arrangements are under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home.
