Bernard Blum

Bernard Lewis Blum was called home to the heavenly father on March 9, 2021 at the age of 68.

He was born April 22, 1952 in Pecos, Texas to Ervin L. and Bernadette Blum. He was raised in the Methodist Church and attended all schools in Monahans, Texas where he graduated in 1970. While attending school he participated in the Big Green Band and ran cross country and track for Monahans. He continued his education at Texas Tech University and received his B.S. degree in Park Management in 1975.

His first job was working at the West Texas Children’s Home in Pyote as Recreation Director. He then began a career with the Santa Fe Railway for 7+ years. His work for the railroad took him to 40 different locations in West Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma serving as relief agent, train order clerk, and printer clerk. He was one of the last telegraph operators for the Santa Fe Railway. He then worked a year for the Railroad Retirement Board.

Afterwards he spent most of his career working for the General Services Administration in Ft. Worth handling government contract work in all parts of the world from November 1985 until his retirement in June 2017.

His hobbies were coin collecting, working on his cars, and playing club volleyball, and touch football at family gatherings. He was a loyal fan of the Cowboys. He loved visiting with the family in Junction, Texas along with fishing, swimming, and rafting on the Llano River.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin L. and Bernadette Blum and is survived by brother Gordon Blum and wife Camilla of Monahans, Texas, brother Patrick Blum and wife Elizabeth of Kingsland, Texas, and sister Theresa and husband Greg Fitzgerald of Midland, Texas, and 5 nieces and 2 nephews.
