Douglas Ward

Douglas Knight Ward, 80, of Monahans Texas passed away on February 5th,2023 in Monahans with his family by his side.
Doug was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Tom and Dorothy Ward on January 29, 1943. Doug grew up in Birmingham, Michigan. He graduated from Seaholm High School in 1961/ Doug spent the next seven years attending Sul Ross University in Alpine. He graduated with a BA in Business and a Master’s Degree in English. Doug married the love of his life Christine on August 23rd,1968 in Alpine. From there they taught school in California for 3 years. In 1971, they moved back to Texas and Doug coached and taught English at Zavala Junior High in Pecos. Doug’s final move was to Monahans in 1979 where he continued teaching and coaching at Walker Junior High. Doug became Head Swim Coach from 1997 to 2001 for Monahans. He was involved in numerous activities and organizations. He was an optimist member, little league Coach, Basketball announcer, Summer golf coach (driving kids all over the country), Swim meet volunteer and filmed football games on Friday nights. Doug helped start the Weaver-Johnson memorial scholarship that continues today. Doug loved all sports and enjoyed watching his athletes compete hard and act right. In 2021, Doug was inducted into the Lobo Hall of Honor.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Dorothy Ward and brothers, John and Richard Ward.
He is survived by wife Christine (Allison), son Steve and wife Kriste, and son Mark and wife Alexandra. Five grandchildren Aubrey, Cameron, Mason, Walker, and Marcus. He had numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
The Celebration of Life will be held February 18th at 1:00pm at the First Methodist Church in Monahans. Visiting time will happen after the service in the Fellowship Hall. The Ward Family wishes to extend our thanks to Ward Memorial Hospital , Odessa Medical Center, and all the friends that helped Doug in his time of need.
