Emma Sue Martinez, 62, our miracle child, passed away to return to our Heavenly Father’s home in the Celestial Kingdom, on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the University Medical Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

A visitation is scheduled 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Harkey Funeral Home.  A service is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with interment to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

Emma was born to David Martinez, Jr. and wife, Raquel “Rachel” Calzada Martinez on September 21, 1959, in Monahans, Texas.

Emma Sue loved everyone, because she would say, “Jesus said, love everyone, as I have loved you!”  She never met a stranger.  She might have been limited to what she could do physically, but she loved to be on the go.  She loved to travel, and her mother would call her, the Roadrunner, because she was always ready to be on the go.  Emma loved music and memorized many songs and loved to sing to her heart out.  Despite her disabilities, she spoke both Spanish and English, and the family claimed that she has the memory of an elephant.  She always spoke of the Lord and to the Lord, and she always prayed for the family. She was very involved with family and had her ear in every conversation; her eyes would twinkle and glow while she listened to everything that was spoken.  Emma was extremely polite and had a sweet way of asking one to leave her alone when she was tired; she would even ask that you left her room.  We thank the Lord for allowing her to be in our lives and have been blessed by her presence.  She was all love and joy every minute of her life! We love you, Ms. Emma!!

Emma is preceded in death by her father, David Martinez Jr., her paternal grandparents, David C Martinez and Estefana Saenz Martinez; her paternal uncles, Ruben Martinez and Willie Martinez; her paternal aunts, Maria Madalena Martinez and Ermelinda Martinez Olivas; her maternal grandparents, Leopaldo “Polo” Calzada and Maria Deo Gracia Sandoval Calzada, her maternal aunt, Marta C. Lopez; her maternal uncle, Francisco Lopez, cousins Jaime and Tomas, Xavier Lopez, and Abel Ybarra.
