Hortensia Silvas

Hortensia Sanchez Silvas, 81, of Monahans, Texas also known as Tencha or Tangy, passed away in her home on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Hortensia was born in Presidio, Texas to her parents Frederico and Catalina Sanchez on June 7, 1940.

Tencha grew up and attended school in Grandfalls, Texas. She met Fidel Silvas in Monahans and later married in November of 1973. Tencha and Fidel went on to have their two children Debra and Ruben. Throughout her life she worked as a cook at Mitchell’s Thiftmart where she became very well known for some of her amazing food. She had a passion for cooking and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tencha was a selfless woman who always did for others and you could always catch her smiling.

Hortensia is preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years Fidel Silvas, her parents Frederico and Catalina Sanchez, her brothers Roberto Sanchez and Francisco Sanchez.

Hortensia is survived by her daughter Debra Ramirez and husband Roman of Monahans, Texas and son Ruben Silvas and wife Petrita of Buda, Texas, grandchildren Kelsea and husband Ruben Zubia, Kierstin and husband Eduardo Silva, Roman Ramirez Jr, Amelia Silvas, along with great grandchildren Diego, Gabriel and Evan Zubia, Kamilla Silva. Hortensia is also survived by an abundance of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Ruben Zubia Jr., Eduardo Silva, Freddy Sanchez, Mitchell Sanchez, Donavan Sanchez and Tyler Hernandez.

Visitation will be held at Harkey Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2022. Rosary to follow at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 27, 2022. Funeral mass to be held at St. John’s Evangelist Catholic Church at 12:30 PM Saturday, May 28, 2022 with burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
