Jose Martinez Davila was born September 14, 1928 in Pecos, Texas, and died in Monahans, Texas at the age of 92.

Jose started working at George Bentley Construction in Grandfalls and then moved to Monahans when the company relocated to Monahans. He worked many years as a construction foreman and supervised the construction of many of the oilfield locations throughout the Permian Basin. He worked for the construction company until the company dissolved. He then went to work for Texas Lease Works as their construction superintendent until he retired at the age of 65.

Jose was a true servant of God. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. For many years he served in many capacities of the church such as altar server, Eucharistic Minister, Cursillista team leader and setting up retreats. He along with his late wife traveled many years in the work of evangelization in and around the West Texas and New Mexico area. Throughout the years he assisted in cooking many meals as part of the Bereavement Ministry and the last few years he hosted Las Posadas at his home at Christmas time. He and his late wife opened up their home as a place for the missionary nuns and priests.

Jose's hobbies included reading, spending time with family, enjoying a good glass of Merlot ("Holy Water"), and bantering with the squirrels in the back yard. He was also known for cooking some of the best menudo, asado, and salsa. His favorite pastime was taking his children and grandchildren for ice cream dates at Dairy Queen.

Jose is preceded by his wife, Henriqueta Ortiz Davila. His parents, Benito and Julia Davila, and his brothers, Gilberto Davila, Ramon Davila, his sister, Guadalupe "Lupe" Dominguez, and great granddaughter, Ariana Martinez.

He is survived by three sisters, Elpidia Flores of Odessa, Maria Camacho of El Paso, and Alicia DeLaurie of Bakersfield, CA. He is also survived by his 11 children, Alicia Miller of San Antonio, Carlos Oyerbides of Lubbock and wife, Estella, Judy Ortiz of San Antonio and husband, Jesse, Joe Davila of Greenwood and wife, Johnna, Jessie Myers of Scott City, KS and husband, George, Wanda Warner of Gaylord, MI, James Davila of Honolulu, HI, Josie McAnally of Monahans, Julia Palma of Odessa and husband, Ruben, Bonnie Chavez of Lubbock and husband, Charles, and Bessie Whitling of Sachse and husband, Jack. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
