Judy Benton

Julia Ann Benton, known as Judy to her family and friends and Bunny to her husband, was born on December 3, 1940 at her aunt’s house in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Bill and Mona Hutcheson.  She passed away on Saturday, August 6th in Dallas, TX.

Judy was born and raised in Monahans, Texas where her childhood was spent running  free outside of her mother’s restaurant, Hutch’s Cafe with her sister and her dog.  She idolized her brother, Jack, who taught her important life lessons and how to shoot a gun.  On March 9, 1967, Judy married Boyd Benton. They were happily married for 49 years.

Judy worked in the oil business for Wood and McShane in Monahans,  Kerr McGee and Flag-Redfern Oil Companies in Midland, TX. She also volunteered at the Opportunity School for Disabled Children while working and having a family.  Later, after she retired she did volunteer work for the Midland Police Department and completed the Citizens Police Academy.  She loved spending time at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Midland doing ceramics and playing bingo with her friends.

She had many talents, although she always insisted that she had none.  She liked to sew dress up and halloween costumes for her grandkids, do needlepoint, and paint ceramics.  She loved old movies and was an avid reader.  Judy traveled extensively throughout the US on several inaugural cruises, bus trips and road trips to 49 states and abroad too many places to name.  More recently, Judy also enjoyed attending rock concerts with her sons, including Bob Seger, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and many others.

Judy chose her friends carefully and they were her friends for life. She had a way of insisting that you notice her, and would do anything for her family.  Chocolate chip cookies were always ready for you when you arrived at her house in Midland and she was never farther than a phone call away for her children and grandchildren.  Anyone that knew Judy was touched by her kindness and common sense.  If you needed advice, she didn’t give it, but she would listen to you until you came to your own conclusions.

Judy is survived by her children Roy Scott, Ricky Scott, Kristen Scott, and Mark Martinets.  Her daughter in law, Dianna Scott.  Her son in law, George Munstedt.  Her grandchildren, Shea Harmon and her husband Brad, Ashton Smith and her husband J., Shawn Scott , Shannon Munstedt, Jessa Munstedt, Danielle Munstedt and Regan Munstedt.  Her great grandchildren; Jonah, Braxton, Kenzie, Boston, Wylah, Millie and Harper.
