Peggy Porter

Peggy Porter, 87, long-time resident of Monahans, Texas went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2019. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home.

Peggy was born in Commerce, Texas to Luther Treadwell and Jimmie D. Treadwell on February 15, 1932. She attended school in Colorado City until she married Robert Lee Porter in October 1946. After marriage, they moved to Odessa then later to Grandfalls, Texas.

The family owned and operated Porter Sand and Gravel Company for many years. During that time, Peggy was a dedicated homemaker and mother of five children.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monahans.

When Peggy was in good health, she enjoyed many things in life such as going to garage sales; she became close friends with some of the people she met at garage sales.  Peggy liked country western dancing, traveling in her motorhome and collecting things, such as, toothpick holders.  She loved her family, her friends, and her cat Fred.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband; Robert Lee Porter, sons; James Porter, Roger Porter, as well as her parents, and brother; J.N. Treadwell and a sister; Jo Erwin.

She is survived by her son; Richard Porter and wife Debbie of Pittsburg, Texas, daughter; Brenda Calhoun of Celina, Texas, son; Gary Porter and wife Charlotte of Colorado Springs, Colorado, brother; Jerry Treadwell and wife Pamela of Houston, Texas, daughter-in-law; Beth Porter of Monahans, Texas, sister-in-law; Peggy Treadwell of Colorado City, Texas former son-in-law; Michael Calhoun, granddaughters; Lacresia Mendoza and husband Chris of Monahans, Texas, Lyric Porter of Coppell, Texas, Natalie Porter of Dallas, Texas, grandsons; Lance Porter of Monahans, Texas, Landon Calhoun and wife Rachel of Celina, Texas, Eric Porter of Dallas, Texas, Sean Porter and wife Brandi of Bedford, Texas,  great grandchildren: De Heath, Brandon Mendoza, Madison Mendoza, and Hendrix Calhoun.

Special thank you to her dear friend, companion, and caretaker, Leonard Kenyon of Monahans, Texas. Also, thank you to all the wonderful people who brought food, drinks, etc. to the house for the family during this time.

Viewing will be held Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Harkey Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 24,2019, at Harkey Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Harkey Funeral Home Chapel in Monahans, Texas with Pastor Chris Powell officiating, burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
