Richard Marenco

Monahans, Texas

Richard Geronimo Marenco, at the age of 66, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas.

Visitation will be held 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Harkey Funeral Home with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.  Mass will be held 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Joe officiating.

Richard was born in Monahans, Texas to Henry and Esperanza Marenco on November 10, 1955. Growing up, Richard served as an alter boy.  He played football and wore the #40, which was also worn by his brother Mando, and now by his nephew Aidan. Richard also ran on relay teams in track, played baseball, was a band member where he played the trumpet and baritone.  He later graduated from Monahans High School and received his Bachelor’s degree of Engineering from UTEP and achieved his Master’s degree of Environmental Science from the University of Texas, San Antonio and was a self-employed engineer for most of his career.  He spent time as an engineer in Iraq during fierce battles, where he gained a great amount of respect for the men and women in uniform.  Richard was an amazing father and grandfather.  He enjoyed music and enjoyed playing the guitar, keyboard, and drums; he even recorded many songs and YouTube tribute videos. He loved to dance and was a member of his mother’s Mexican Folkloric dance group.  He will be missed immensely!

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esperanza Marenco; and brother, Enrique (Rick) Jr.

Richard is survived by his common-law-wife, Mary L. Anthony; sons, Fred Chavez and Roy Anthony; daughters, Linda (Joey) Hernandez and Barbara (Armando) Montemayor; grandchildren, Nathaniel Roy Anthony, Armando V. Montemayor Jr., Joey Anthony Hernandez, Ava Rose Montemayor, and Geronimo Fred Chavez; brothers, Jorge Luis Jeronimo (Elizabeth) Reyes, Eddie (Irma) Marenco, Armando (Michelle) Marenco; sister, Marcela Marenco (Kenny) McCalister; nephews, Jorge Reyes, Alberto Reyes, Matthew (Stephanie) Marenco, Isaiah McCalister, and Aidan Marenco; nieces, Tiffany Marenco (Dimitri) and Alyssa Marenco; grandnephews, Adrian Zagame and Joshua Perez; grandnieces, Alexandria Zagame and Nienna Marenco.

Having the honor to serve as pallbearers are as follows: Fred Chavez, Roy Anthony, Joey Hernandez, Nathaniel Anthony, Aidan Marenco, and Isaiah McCalister.
