Teodora "Dorothy" Acosta

April 1, 1944 ~ March 21, 2023 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Obituary

Teodora Gonzales Acosta, 78, affectionately known as Dorothy, Corazón, Sis, Mom, Lita, and Tia, came into this glorious world on April 1, 1944, and left to be with her Heavenly Father on March 21, 2023.

Visitation will be held 1:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2023, and from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Harkey Funeral Home. Rosary will held at 7:00 PM on March 27, 2023 at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church. A mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at St. John the Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church with burial to follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving parents Herman Gonzales, Trinidad Gonzales and Francisca Gonzales.

Dorothy is survived by the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Paul Acosta, her children, Mark Acosta (Teresa), Victoria Hartman, and Martin Acosta (Ruthie); Lita’s grandchildren, Jori, Jaison, Darla-Nicole, Gabriel, Joli and Marley, as well as her three great-grandsons, Wolfgang, Bjorn and Léon; additionally, she leaves behind her siblings, Cypriana Benevidez (Andy), Domingo Gonzales (Diana), Gloria Hernandez (Rudy) and Rosalia Peacock (George). Tia Dorothy leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, like Trini, Jerico Paul, Rosemary, Mingo, Belinda, Michael, Kimberly, and Chrystal.

Dorothy was a caregiver in every sense of the word. First as a mother, then as a nurse for many years. In retirement and as a member of the St. John The Apostle and Evangelist Catholic Church, she continued her compassionate work.  Through Sacred Heart, she helped feed the community, distributed communion to the homebound and was involved in other ministries at the church, so much so that one of her grandchildren once asked if she lived at the church.

Those who knew her understood she loved life, her family and lived by her faith, as evidenced by her fabulous rosary collection.  She would want everyone she leaves behind to find joy and peace in their memories of her and take comfort in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior.  She believed everyone should savor a good dessert after every meal, and yes, that includes breakfast! So when you have a cookie, cake or Krispy Kreme donut, please think of her.

Remember her laugh, her wise advice, and how deeply she loved.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. John’s Apostle Catholic Church Sacred Heart.
